Returning to Our Roots: Redesign of Holes 15, 16, and 17
We’re excited to share the transformation of holes 15, 16, and 17. This redesign, led by renowned golf architect Richard Mandell (Richard Mandell Golf Architecture) marks a big step in our effort to bring the course back to its 1926 origins. By capitalizing on Darlington Country Club's sandy soils, we’re transitioning from a wall-to-wall grass and rough layout to one that embraces its natural features and highlights the course's historical charm.
The redesign focuses on exposing the sandy soils that are integral to our course’s history. Instead of adding roughs, we’re highlighting these unique natural areas to provide a more authentic and challenging golf experience.
Richard Mandell Golf Architecture has already completed significant work on several holes, including numbers 3, 10, 13, and 18. The recent updates to holes 15, 16, and 17 are now available for play and showcase the new design elements. The incorporation of sandy waste areas and a more traditional look enhances both the visual appeal and playability of the course, making each hole a unique challenge.
